Rashtriya Vigyan Evam Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad (RVPSP), new Delhi, Department of Science & Technology, is an apex body set up with the objectives of popularization of science and technology (S&T) and stimulation of scientific and technological temper among the people. Among otehr things RVPSP:-
Catalyzing and supporting research and development in the area of S&T Communication and deviding more efficitive communication methods, tools and technologies;
Developing software in different languages in the form of films, websites, ratio and television programs and magazines in different languages;
Helping prepare competent science communications, through short and long-term courses in selected S&T based voluntary organisations, State Councils of Science & Technology, Universities, etc.
Encouraging and recognizing outstanding, communications and institutions involved in S&T popularization, through national awards.
Organizing state/country wide field projects for fulfilling its objectives by involving other agencies and network of science beased voluntary organisations, etc. These can be in the form of Jathas, meals science exhibitions, science conferences, seminars, etc.
RVPSP maintains up to date databases in relevant areas of S&T communication. It also orchestrates and coordinates S&T popularization programs and activities nationaly.
PSCST
The objectives of the PSCST (Punjab State Council for Science and Technology)
Make most effective use of the existing scientific and technological institutional infra-structure in the State and to identify areas in which available or developing scientific and technical knowledge can be promoted and utilized for the achievement of Socio Economic Developmental objectives including the objectives of tackling the problems of backwardness, unemployment and poverty particularly in the rural areas of faced by the underprivileged sections of the society.
Prepare Science and Technology Plans relevant to the development needs of the State; and to establish effective communication and other links between, and to facilitate greater co-ordination in the activities of Centres of Scientific and Technological Research, including Universities, Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, State Undertakings, industries and local artisans in order to promote the generation and application of Science and Technology.
Identify, generate, utilize and promote new technologies relevant to the development needs of the State.
Advise the State Government in the formulation of policies, and measures necessary to promote science and technology and to initiate, support, promote and co-ordinate such research design and development projects as are likely to be relevant to the specific problems and technological requirements of the State.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of Science & Technology Plans for the State.
Promote the popularization of science and the spread of a scientific temper and attitude among the people of the State.
Promote and establish pilot-plants and programmes including demonstration units based on technology generated through indigenous Science and Technology, to promote and develop indigenous S & T users/entrepreneurs and to establish units for commercial exploitation of Science and Technology for priority developmental needs of the State.
Identify priority areas of S & T needed for long term development of the State.
If considered essential, to establish, or assist in the establishment of the infrastructure, institutions, organizations etc. necessary to achieve the aforesaid objective.
Take any other steps which are relevant to the promotion of Science and Technology and its application to the developmental needs of the state.
NCSTC-Network
The objectives of the NCSTC-Network
Dissemination and exchange of S&T communication information, experience and materials,among members and common people with the primary aim of generating scientific temper among masses.
Training of S&T communicators / workers for a variety of S&T Popularisation tasks.
Nucleation of activities and agencies for 'Science Popularisation' in States / Union Territories, districts, blocks, villages etc.
Preparation of software items and their conversion into all major Indian languages and its distribution and dissemination countrywide.
Participation in surveys, data collection, analysis and to undertake research projects in the area of science/technology communication and Popularisation.
To undertake research, design, development and production work concerning materials, intruments or equipments which may be helpful in promoting science and indigenous knowledge systems/technology.
To undertake and/or participate in programmes which may bring benefits of science and technology to various sections of common people in terms of their quality of life and their environment.
